# The Last Lantern cinema dailies pack: media-pack production guide

## Purpose

Produce a standardized, rights-cleared pack that lets every student complete the same guided workflows while retaining creative choices in the capstone. Large media is distributed by the institution; this repository contains the brief, manifest, checks, and assessment materials only.

## Required content

Camera-original extracts, sound rolls, dailies transcodes, LUT notes, slates, script and lined-script pages, continuity notes, camera reports, sound reports, scene brief, temp music, VFX plates, and turnover specification.

Expected storage: Approximately 105 GB including originals, DNx editorial media, renders, exports, and turnover copies.

## Production requirements

- Create all source media specifically for teaching or secure a license permitting classroom redistribution and student portfolio use.
- Retain contributor releases, music and sample licenses, location permissions, and creator credits in 01_ADMIN/rights.
- Preserve authentic metadata, timecode, sample rate, channel layout, slates, reports, and filenames required by the taught workflow.
- Provide untouched source media, a checksum manifest, an instructor reference project, and a verified reference output.
- Keep faults intentional, reversible, documented in an instructor-only key, and absent from the untouched originals.
- Test all media and projects on a clean institution lab account with network access disabled after download.
- Do not include private personal information, real confidential production data, or assets whose license depends on a student-owned account.

## Intentional fault fixtures

- M1-F1: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Transcodes cannot relink to originals". Instructor resolution evidence: Compare source file/reel metadata, timecode, frame rate, source path, AMA/link attributes, and any naming changes.
- M1-F2: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Media is offline after moving systems". Instructor resolution evidence: Verify managed media path and databases, linked source availability, drive names, permissions, and project media ownership.
- M1-F3: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Picture looks different after transcode". Instructor resolution evidence: Review source color space, LUT/transform application, project color settings, bake versus metadata behavior, and display path.
- M2-F1: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Sync is correct at slate but drifts later". Instructor resolution evidence: Check actual sample/frame rates, variable-rate sources, clocking, pull settings, and whether the wrong source version was used.
- M2-F2: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Production channels disappear in group clips". Instructor resolution evidence: Review AutoSync/group audio choices, source channel mapping, track count, and group update method.
- M2-F3: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Subclip names break conform metadata". Instructor resolution evidence: Keep source master metadata intact and place editorial naming in the appropriate clip-name or custom fields without rewriting reel/source identity.
- M3-F1: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Edit goes to the wrong record tracks". Instructor resolution evidence: Inspect source/record selectors, active tracks, sync locks, and whether the loaded source contains expected channels.
- M3-F2: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Sequence duration changes unexpectedly". Instructor resolution evidence: Confirm whether Splice-In, Extract, Lift, Overwrite, or filler was used and what marks defined the operation.
- M3-F3: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Match frame opens unexpected media". Instructor resolution evidence: Check selected track, position, nested content, group/source relationship, and whether the sequence references a subclip or render.
- M4-F1: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Every cut feels visible". Instructor resolution evidence: Return to performance intention, reaction timing, sound continuity, and shot motivation rather than adding dissolves.
- M4-F2: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Continuity is perfect but scene feels flat". Instructor resolution evidence: Prioritize dramatic beat, point of view, silence, and strongest performance over exhaustive matching.
- M4-F3: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Trim Mode affects the wrong side". Instructor resolution evidence: Check selected rollers, active tracks, sync locks, linked selection, and whether asymmetric trim is enabled.
- M5-F1: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Temp music dictates every cut". Instructor resolution evidence: Mute it, restore scene performance and internal sound rhythm, then reintroduce music only where it adds a specific function.
- M5-F2: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Reviewers comment on unfinished distractions". Instructor resolution evidence: Raise the temporary presentation to a clear review threshold or label known issues and frame the review question explicitly.
- M5-F3: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "VFX turnover loses original framing". Instructor resolution evidence: Preserve source references, handles, transform data, timewarp information, and clean plates in the effect record.
- M6-F1: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "AAF opens with missing or shifted audio". Instructor resolution evidence: Check sequence rate, start timecode, sample rate, source media, handles, embedded/linked choice, rendered effects, and export warnings.
- M6-F2: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Original relink selects the wrong clip". Instructor resolution evidence: Inspect source file/reel metadata, timecode overlaps, duplicate names, frame rate, source path, and relink matching criteria.
- M6-F3: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Offline and online framing disagree". Instructor resolution evidence: Compare source raster, proxy framing, FrameFlex/reformat settings, source transform, stabilization, and effect order.

## Release checklist
