# Night Shift television segment pack: media-pack production guide

## Purpose

Produce a standardized, rights-cleared pack that lets every student complete the same guided workflows while retaining creative choices in the capstone. Large media is distributed by the institution; this repository contains the brief, manifest, checks, and assessment materials only.

## Required content

Two interviews, B-roll, observational sequences, two-camera demonstration, production audio, stills, graphics kit, music, transcripts, releases, fact sheet, caption style, and broadcast delivery brief.

Expected storage: Approximately 65 GB source media and 18 GB proxy/media-cache allowance.

## Production requirements

- Create all source media specifically for teaching or secure a license permitting classroom redistribution and student portfolio use.
- Retain contributor releases, music and sample licenses, location permissions, and creator credits in 01_ADMIN/rights.
- Preserve authentic metadata, timecode, sample rate, channel layout, slates, reports, and filenames required by the taught workflow.
- Provide untouched source media, a checksum manifest, an instructor reference project, and a verified reference output.
- Keep faults intentional, reversible, documented in an instructor-only key, and absent from the untouched originals.
- Test all media and projects on a clean institution lab account with network access disabled after download.
- Do not include private personal information, real confidential production data, or assets whose license depends on a student-owned account.

## Intentional fault fixtures

- M1-F1: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Proxy and source frame differently". Instructor resolution evidence: Check aspect ratio, frame size, rotation, interpret-footage settings, proxy preset, and source metadata.
- M1-F2: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Audio channels are missing or duplicated". Instructor resolution evidence: Correct source channel mapping before sequence use and replace or remap affected clips consistently.
- M1-F3: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Log footage appears wrong". Instructor resolution evidence: Confirm source color space, input interpretation, sequence working color space, display management, and output transform.
- M2-F1: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Text-based edit creates unnatural joins". Instructor resolution evidence: Return to source audio, restore breaths and context, and treat transcript edits as provisional selections.
- M2-F2: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "The contributor appears to answer a different question". Instructor resolution evidence: Check preceding prompt, complete answer, chronology, and whether the new context changes meaning.
- M2-F3: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "The story has facts but no progression". Instructor resolution evidence: Define what the audience understands at the start, midpoint, and end, then reorder evidence around that change.
- M3-F1: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Insert lands on the wrong track". Instructor resolution evidence: Check source patching, track targeting, sync locks, and active in/out range before undoing and repeating.
- M3-F2: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Multicam drifts". Instructor resolution evidence: Verify source frame rates, audio sample rate, sync method, variable-frame-rate media, and production recording continuity.
- M3-F3: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "A trim breaks picture/audio sync". Instructor resolution evidence: Use linked selection and sync locks intentionally; inspect out-of-sync indicators before deciding whether the offset is creative.
- M4-F1: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Captions drift after editorial changes". Instructor resolution evidence: Regenerate or retime from the near-locked sequence and inspect every edit after the change point.
- M4-F2: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Lower thirds collide with captions". Instructor resolution evidence: Use coordinated safe zones, alternate vertical positions, display timing, and an approved caption/graphics layout policy.
- M4-F3: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Dialogue noise changes at every cut". Instructor resolution evidence: Rebuild ambience and phrase continuity first, then apply conservative clip- or track-specific restoration.
- M5-F1: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Image changes after export". Instructor resolution evidence: Compare display management, sequence/output color space, export color settings, player behavior, and viewing environment.
- M5-F2: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Scopes look legal but the face is wrong". Instructor resolution evidence: Scopes describe signals, not subject intent; isolate the relevant region and use visual/contextual judgment with calibrated monitoring.
- M5-F3: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Late edit breaks captions and mix". Instructor resolution evidence: Create a new version, document exact time change, update dependent departments/assets, and rerun downstream QC.
- M6-F1: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Master has wrong channel order". Instructor resolution evidence: Verify sequence track type, output mapping, export channel configuration, source stems, and playback interpretation.
- M6-F2: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Project Manager omits media". Instructor resolution evidence: Check nested sequences, dynamically linked items, stills, graphics, offline clips, proxy/original state, and handles.
- M6-F3: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Caption sidecar is rejected". Instructor resolution evidence: Confirm active caption track type, sidecar format, frame rate, encoding, timebase, programme start, and required naming.

## Release checklist

- [ ] Rights and releases permit the intended distribution and student output.
- [ ] Manifest names, sizes, checksums, formats, and metadata match the distributed files.
- [ ] Starter project opens without missing media or third-party dependencies.
- [ ] Every module can be completed from the supplied pack and documented lab configuration.
- [ ] Reference outputs are clearly separated from student starter material.
- [ ] Instructor-only fault keys are not included in the student download.
- [ ] Accessibility alternatives exist for any task that depends on hearing, vision, fine-motor input, or timed performance.
