# The Lost Interview editing pack: media-pack production guide

## Purpose

Produce a standardized, rights-cleared pack that lets every student complete the same guided workflows while retaining creative choices in the capstone. Large media is distributed by the institution; this repository contains the brief, manifest, checks, and assessment materials only.

## Required content

Dialogue takes, host links, room tone, wild lines, music stems, production notes, transcript, loudness brief, and intentional edit faults.

Expected storage: Approximately 2 GB after copying the source WAV files.

## Production requirements

- Create all source media specifically for teaching or secure a license permitting classroom redistribution and student portfolio use.
- Retain contributor releases, music and sample licenses, location permissions, and creator credits in 01_ADMIN/rights.
- Preserve authentic metadata, timecode, sample rate, channel layout, slates, reports, and filenames required by the taught workflow.
- Provide untouched source media, a checksum manifest, an instructor reference project, and a verified reference output.
- Keep faults intentional, reversible, documented in an instructor-only key, and absent from the untouched originals.
- Test all media and projects on a clean institution lab account with network access disabled after download.
- Do not include private personal information, real confidential production data, or assets whose license depends on a student-owned account.

## Intentional fault fixtures

- M1-F1: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Audio plays at the wrong speed or pitch". Instructor resolution evidence: Stop and compare source and session sample rates. Re-import from the untouched source using the correct conversion choice.
- M1-F2: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Imported files are offline after moving computers". Instructor resolution evidence: Use Copy on import or Save Copy In with all audio files; avoid references to Downloads or removable temporary locations.
- M1-F3: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "A track meters but cannot be heard". Instructor resolution evidence: Trace input, inserts, sends, track output, aux input, aux output, monitor path, and hardware output in that order.
- M2-F1: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Clips jump unexpectedly when moved". Instructor resolution evidence: Check the active edit mode, grid value, and whether Shuffle affects adjacent clips.
- M2-F2: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "A command changes the wrong tracks". Instructor resolution evidence: Inspect track selection, edit selection, link-track-and-edit-selection state, and group membership.
- M2-F3: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "The edit cursor and playback location disagree". Instructor resolution evidence: Review insertion-follows-playback and timeline/edit-selection linking preferences.
- M3-F1: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "A click remains after adding a fade". Instructor resolution evidence: Move the boundary away from a transient or DC offset, lengthen the fade slightly, and inspect both sides at sample level.
- M3-F2: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Room tone sounds looped". Instructor resolution evidence: Use longer varied sections, alternate sources, and crossfade boundaries outside prominent events.
- M3-F3: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Words sound rushed after removing pauses". Instructor resolution evidence: Restore cognitive and breath space; judge syntax and performance rather than optimizing duration alone.
- M4-F1: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "The mix gets louder when stems are combined". Instructor resolution evidence: Check duplicate routing, sends feeding the main bus, and whether printed stems are being monitored alongside live paths.
- M4-F2: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Automation is ignored". Instructor resolution evidence: Verify automation mode, parameter enable state, suspension controls, and whether clip gain is being confused with volume automation.
- M4-F3: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Compression pumps on room noise". Instructor resolution evidence: Return to clip gain and edit continuity, reduce the detector's workload, and use slower or gentler settings.
- M5-F1: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Integrated loudness changes between passes". Instructor resolution evidence: Confirm identical start/end points, reset meter history, bypass monitoring-only processing, and check automation.
- M5-F2: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "True peak rises after export". Instructor resolution evidence: Inspect codec and sample-rate conversion, leave more headroom, and measure the encoded deliverable rather than only the session bus.
- M5-F3: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Dialogue meets the number but feels buried". Instructor resolution evidence: Return to spectral masking, arrangement, automation, and intelligibility; loudness compliance does not guarantee clarity.
- M6-F1: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "The archive opens with missing files". Instructor resolution evidence: Use the relink window to identify original paths, then rebuild with Save Copy In and test from a renamed or disconnected source location.
- M6-F2: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "Stems do not reconstruct the mix". Instructor resolution evidence: Check shared bus processing, sidechains, effects returns, mute automation, and whether the full mix contains paths excluded from stems.
- M6-F3: Create a reversible fixture demonstrating "The exported file starts or ends incorrectly". Instructor resolution evidence: Use an explicit timeline selection and verify tails, delay compensation, offline bounce behavior, and export duration.
