# How Live Broadcast Works: teacher guide

## Delivery

Students complete the shared Production Readiness orientation first. Use the modules as a sequence of concepts, guided builds, crew sprints, checkpoints, and reflection. The final portfolio is assessed with the 100-point rubric; module checks are formative.

## Preparation

- Complete Production Readiness orientation.
- Use private or local distribution by default; public streaming requires separate school approval and moderation.
- No unsupervised public contributors, public chat, dangerous rigging, or untested network exposure.
- Tier A: two phones/tablets, headphones, basic editor, local recording, and a private rehearsal.
- Tier B: two cameras, tripods, audio mixer/recorder, wired communications, graphics/playback, local network.
- Tier C: studio, switcher, intercom, tally, confidence monitoring, encoder, recorder, and technical support.

## Access and safety

Use the school-approved safeguarding, consent, privacy, copyright, risk, publication, and retention processes. The course supports private or local delivery by default. Give students equivalent off-camera, non-speaking, technical, editorial, research, access, and archive roles.

## Pacing

### Module 1: Understand the live-production system

**Workload:** 2.5 hours

**Checkpoint:** Retain annotated lifecycle, risk comparison, audience boundary, and stop-work decision.

### Module 2: Design the format, rundown, and crew

**Workload:** 3.5 hours

### Module 3: Prepare cameras, lighting, and blocking

**Workload:** 3.5 hours

### Module 4: Build intelligible live audio

**Workload:** 3.5 hours

**Checkpoint:** Retain audio map, preflight, test recording, monitoring plan, and recovery route.

### Module 5: Prepare graphics, playback, timing, and access

**Workload:** 3 hours

**Checkpoint:** Retain graphics, clip manifest, rights notes, caption/transcript plan, and accessibility rehearsal.

### Module 6: Connect, monitor, record, and protect the signal

**Workload:** 4 hours

**Checkpoint:** Retain system map, device settings, preflight, record verification, and network boundary.

### Module 7: Rehearse failure and recovery

**Workload:** 3 hours

**Checkpoint:** Retain two failure rehearsals, issue log, revised contingency rundown, and communication reflection.

### Module 8: Produce, sign off, and review the programme

**Workload:** 4 hours

**Checkpoint:** Retain final programme, rundown with actuals, incident report, captions/transcript, QC, archive, and career reflection.

## Completion gate

The final package must be reviewable by a second student or teacher, accessible through the appropriate alternative, rights-aware, safe to retain, and explainable in a short walkthrough.
