AI in Professional Audio Post-Production

This page maps where AI tools sit in film, television and broadcast audio post-production, the stage after shooting where dialogue, music and effects are repaired, edited and mixed. It is for dialogue editors, mixers and broadcast engineers who already know the craft and want to know what changed. By the end you will know which job each tool does, which makers' claims we checked against their own pages, and which were unreachable. Reviewed 2026-10-08.

What is different about professional use

Creator tools are judged on one result. Professional tools sit inside a chain of people and contracts, so four questions decide whether a tool is usable. This strand is for: Dialogue editors, re-recording mixers, localisation and broadcast engineers.

Does it run in real time or offline?

A dubbing stage needs sound processed as it plays. A dialogue edit prefers a render you hear and revise. The makers describe both, and one tool often offers only one.

Does it work inside the workstation you use?

A plug-in format such as AAX, VST3 or AU decides whether a tool loads in Pro Tools, Nuendo or Reaper. Each guide names the formats the maker states.

Is the result steady across a whole reel?

A tool that sounds right on one line and different on the next fails in the cut. None of the makers' pages we read reports a result across a feature, so this is a test you run yourself.

Does the delivery specification and the performer consent allow it?

A buyer might refuse estimated stems or an upmix, and voice reconstruction raises consent questions. Our guide to the union's summary of the tentative 2026 TV/Theatrical agreement covers consent for replicas, and it is not the final contract.

Tools, with what the makers state

Every tool on this page is listed as not tested by us. Several are sold by contract or as hardware, and we do not contact vendors for demonstrations. The statements below come from the maker's own page where the last column shows a date. The creator-level tools and a wider table are on the AI Tools for Creative Work hub.

AudioShake (contract product)
Its dialogue, music and effects page lists dialogue, music and effects stems and says clean dialogue improves transcription and captioning accuracy. It says dubbing services use the technology, and does not mention M&E tracks or recovering lost stems. Access is a browser tool, a REST API and SDKs. Customer logos and accuracy figures are the vendor's own claims and were not checked.

Consent, labelling and rights

Voice reconstruction and visual dubbing touch a performer's voice or face, and delivery contracts decide which repairs a buyer accepts. Read AI Voice Cloning: Consent, Contracts, and Disclosure and When to Label Content as AI-Made: Platform Rules and Audience Trust first. The union's own summary of its tentative 2026 TV/Theatrical agreement is covered in Digital Replicas and Synthetics. We have not read the full contract or the European Union labelling rules in their primary form, so this strand does not summarise them beyond that guide.

Checked 2026-10-08. We opened the maker's own page for 8 of 9 tools on this strand. We tested none of them. We record no prices, so each tier is our estimate.

These tools are described from trade coverage because the maker's page was unreachable or did not describe the product: Avid Pro Tools Speech-to-Text. Their rows say "Not yet" under "Checked against maker", and each guide names the trade source it used.
