How to Use This Tool

Upload any browser-decodable audio file, then drag the two handles on the waveform to set your trim start and end points. Add a fade-in and/or fade-out in milliseconds. Both use an equal-power (cosine) curve, which sounds smoother and more natural than a straight linear fade, especially on short durations.

Why Equal-Power Fades Sound Better

A linear fade's perceived loudness actually drops off faster than it looks on the fader, because human loudness perception isn't linear. An equal-power fade compensates for this, keeping the apparent rate of volume change more consistent throughout the fade, which is why professional editors default to it over a straight linear ramp.

• Cutting dead air from the start or end of a recording before further editing.

Q: Can I trim from the middle of a file, not just the start/end?
