How to Use the Storyboard Builder

Why Storyboards Matter

Storyboards translate your script into visual sequences. They show you, before expensive shooting, whether shots work logically, how camera movement flows, and where you need special effects. Directors and studios use storyboards to align the team on vision.

Storyboard Elements

Shot Description: Wide shot, medium shot, close-up, etc.
Dialogue/Narration: What's being said during this shot.
Camera Movement: Pan, tilt, dolly, crane, static. Describes how the shot evolves.
Visual Notes: Lighting, color, props, set dressing relevant to this moment.
Timing: How long the shot stays on screen.

Storyboarding Workflow

1) Read your script. 2) Identify all distinct scenes and shots. 3) Sketch (or find reference images for) each shot. 4) Add dialogue, camera movement, and notes. 5) Review with team to confirm shots before production.

FAQ

Q: Do I need to draw or can I use photos/reference images?
A: Photos/references are faster and clearer. Sketches work too if you're comfortable drawing. Don't overthink the quality.

Q: Should I storyboard every shot or just key moments?
A: At minimum, key moments (transitions, effects, complex movements). Full storyboards take time but prevent expensive on-set confusion.
