Six assignments that reveal real understanding

Each task produces observable evidence. Learners should submit the artifact, their settings or process, and a short reflection.

1. Evidence brief

Write a one-page brief that names audience, intended change, evidence, exclusions, permissions, and success criteria.

2. Continuity sequence

Communicate one action in six shots while preserving exposure, screen direction, eyeline, and action continuity.

3. Microphone comparison

Record one passage at three distances, loudness-match playback, and justify the selected setup using audible evidence.

4. Three-pass edit

Submit story, clarity, and polish versions with a change log describing what each pass solved.

5. Accessibility remediation

Audit an existing video, repair captions and graphics, add a transcript, and separate automated from human checks.

6. Blind delivery handoff

Give the final package to another learner. Score whether they can identify, play, verify, and archive it without verbal help.

Make feedback specific, observable, and revisable

First response

Review once without interruption. State what you understood, where attention moved, and where meaning became uncertain.

Evidence pass

Identify the exact frame, cut, sound, caption, or file behavior behind each observation. Avoid feedback based only on taste.

Revision contract

The learner chooses the three highest-value revisions, predicts their effect, and records what changed after the next review.

Recommended assessment split

Use 60% product evidence, 20% process documentation, and 20% reflection and response to feedback. The capstone rubric defines six criteria and a 100-point scale.

Access is part of the assignment brief

Do not wait until submission to ask whether learners can use the materials, equipment, interfaces, or assessment format.

Multiple production roles

Allow learners to demonstrate outcomes through directing, camera, sound, editing, accessibility, producing, or technical delivery roles.

Accessible materials

Provide captions, transcripts, readable documents, keyboard-operable tools, sufficient contrast, and alternatives to timed live demonstrations.

Equipment equity

Grade intentional decisions and evidence, not ownership of expensive equipment. Publish minimum viable and advanced options for each lab.

Teach software through a complete professional outcome

Seven 24-30 hour courses share a 75-minute workflow orientation, six application modules, standardized checkpoints, and a portfolio capstone. There are no graded quizzes.

Before the course

Provision the tested application release, approved lab routing, working storage, rights-cleared media, and the exact delivery specification. Run the downloadable asset manifest before students begin.

During each module

Use the principle explanation, guided build, independent challenge, troubleshooting cases, vocabulary, and portfolio checkpoint. Assess decisions through observable evidence rather than speed alone.

At completion

Require the native project, final master, supporting outputs, decision log, QC report, self-assessed rubric, and five-minute walkthrough. Run a blind handoff on a second lab system.

Application intensive rubric

Use 25% creative or editorial judgment, 25% technical execution, 15% workflow organization, 15% application fluency, 15% delivery and quality control, and 5% documentation and reflection. Module checkpoints are formative. The final portfolio is the assessed evidence.
