The people who built the chain from capturing motion and sound through transmission, television and colour to compression and streaming. 110 figures, of whom 68 sit in the overlooked strand — documented contributors the standard histories skip or under-credit — and 16 are women.
The distribution is uneven and we have not evened it out. Broadcast engineering’s record is dominated by men working in a handful of countries, and the mechanisms that produced that record — patent assignment, contractual anonymity, standards-body authorship, and histories written only in English — are part of the story rather than something to quietly correct.
